The National Youth Choir of Australia

Robin DarrochRobin Darroch

Robin joined NYCA in Melbourne in 1996, while studying Science (Chemistry and Astrophysics) at the Australian National University and Music (Composition) at the Canberra School of Music. He continued to sing with NYCA through the 2000 season, then in 2001 moved to Phoenix, Arizona, USA to pursue a career as a commercial pilot. After returning to Australia in November 2003, Robin rejoined NYCA in Melbourne for their 2003-4 tour season.

Robin's composition, Der Jammerwoch, was recorded by NYCA during their 1998 Sydney season, and was performed during the 1999 tour of New Zealand. It also made a brief reappearance during rehearsal in the 2004 Adelaide season.

Robin has now reluctantly graduated from NYCA, but eagerly awaits the creation of NICA - the National Immature Choir of Australia - of which he intends to be a founding member. Since December 2004, Robin has been living in Port Hedland, Western Australia, where he flies Piper Navajo and Chieftain aircraft for Golden Eagle Airlines. He spends his spare time playing oboe and cor anglais in the Hedland Chamber Enseble, fighting fires with the South Hedland Volunteer Fire Brigade, writing GPS software for the Mac, and occasionally developing web sites, including the online home of the comic The Spade-Men, and the NYCA web site.
