Singers
The National Youth Choir of Australia is comprised of singers aged 18 to 28 from across the country. The majority of choristers are studying at university in such fields as medicine, education, music, engineering, arts and science. Other choir members are young professionals working in a variety of vocations.
The common interest that draws "NYCAns" together is a passion for music and a love of singing challenging and exciting choral music. Most singers are involved with performing arts in their home town and are members of choirs, orchestras, small ensembles and music theatre productions.
Past members of NYCA have pursued a wide range of careers. Some are professional opera singers, music teachers, cabaret performers, conductors, or otherwise employed in the performing arts, while others include lawyers, pilots, architects, engineers, and magazine editors.
Singers travel long distances to participate in the choir with some traveling from as far afield as northern Queensland, Tasmania or remote Western Australia. The opportunity to experience new places, meet creative and talented people and catch up with old friends is a highlight of every season.
