Announcing NYCA Season 2017 Auditions!

Applications are now being sought from outstanding young singers aged 18-26 for the National Youth Choir of Australia in 2017.

The season will be fully residential at Emmanuel College within the University of Queensland, and will run from July 2-9 inclusive.

This season also sees the return of the highly-regarded Australian choral conductor Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM as guest director for NYCA 2017.

Prospective applicants should view the Audition FAQ and submit their application via the website. All auditions will take place via Skype in December and places are strictly limited.

Newsflash: New patron for NYCA!

We are excited to announce that Dr Richard Letts AM has agreed to be a Patron of the National Youth Choir at the invitation of NYCA Chair Stuart Hamilton AO.

A pianist, composer, music advocate and arts administrator, Dr Letts has served as Director of the Music Board of the Australia Council, where he initiated major developments in policy. He became Director of the Australian Music Centre in 1987, and founded the Music Council of Australia in 1994.

In 2005, Dr Letts was elected President of the International Music Council, based in UNESCO in Paris, and has been responsible for various major innovations in Council’s program including establishment of an International Music Sector Development Program.

Since his retirement, Dr Letts has established The Music Trust which has been set up to offer a flexible, creative and energetic response to the situation of music in Australia, with a commitment to the best ideas for fostering excellence, innovation, and access.

NYCA to meet in Brisbane in 2017 under Carl Crossin OAM

The National Youth Choir of Australia is pleased to announce Season 2017 in Brisbane running from July 2-9.

The season's guest director will be the distinguished Australian conductor Associate Professor Carl Crossin OAM.

A former NYCA artistic director, Carl is also founder, artistic director and conductor of the acclaimed Adelaide Chamber Singers and is currently Head of Vocal - Choral & Conducting Studies at The University of Adelaide.

The National Youth Choir will be resident at Emmanuel College at the University of Queensland, and the season heralds the choir's return to Queensland for the first time since 2013.

Auditions for singers aged 18-26 to participate in the season will take place in early December, with registrations opening in late October.

We are delighted to announce that Dr. David Hill (Chief Conductor, BBC Singers & Music Director, The Bach Choir) has accepted an invitation from NYCA Chair Stuart Hamilton AO to become a patron of the National Youth Choir of Australia.

Dr. Hill has just finished directing the 2016 season to great acclaim, and we are looking forward to his ongoing interest in NYCA and future visits to Australia.
